LK Architecture provided full architectural/engineering services including food service design for the cafeteria and office additions to the Berean Academy. The design included a new grand entrance to the K-12 school. Together, the three new components create an exciting new face to the school that establishes a new brand and definitive front door to the educational campus. The new 4,400 square foot cafeteria addition includes a 180-seat dining area that accommodate multiple seating configurations and congregate functions. As a primary function, it is designed to serve more than 400 meals during three lunch periods each day with capacity to accommodate increased enrollment. The full-service kitchen is designed to serve a full range of hot and cold meal options as well serve as concessions during school sporting events. The cafeteria style serving line is segregated from the dining area to allow the school to secure the kitchen area from after-hours activities in the multipurpose dining area. The kitchen includes multiple food prep lines, a cooking line, a serving line and segregated dishwashing area as well as primary and concession dry store rooms, walk-in cooler, walk-in freezer, laundry, independent utilities and kitchen administration. The new 2,600 square foot office addition includes a public lobby with secure entrance to centralize and control public access to the school campus. In addition to the staff offices, the administrative wing houses a general workroom and a sick room for students needing simple immediate medical care.
