The concept was developed with particular attention given to users with limited mobility as well as developmental limitations. To that end, opportunities for people of all abilities were included. Additionally, the users of this space are not children but, rather, adults. These unique attributes of the users focused the design on sensory experiences and activities which are safe and calming. Additionally, activities were arranged such that clients were able to engage with activities alone or in small groups.
A wide track organizes the space which allows for users to walk or use adult tricycles. As most understand, a track is one of the most utilized features included in dementia/Alzheimer’s facilities.
Around the track, percussion instruments were spaced to give users opportunities to experience music.
A sport court as also included which features opportunities for individual and group activities to occur. Shooting baskets was identified by the client as a popular activity by their users and was
included along with pickleball, four-square, shuffleboard and hopscotch.
