The LK Architecture and TranSystems team awarded the project to design the Delano Greenway and Sycamore Street Improvements in the historic Delano District. This district has a storied history and has recently been the focus of renewed interest and development. The project was initiated in response to the new downtown library, new office, hotel and apartment developments and envisioned to provide enhanced access, parking, transportation and recreation opportunities. The Delano Greenway extends over 1/2 of a mile within an abandoned railroad line and crosses several streets
including Sycamore. Sycamore Street was designed with angled, on-street parking, wide sidewalks and a tabletop crossing for the greenway. Enhanced design elements for the street included extensive brick pavers, stone benches, ornamental planting and lighting. Additionally, custom benches and Longhorn sculptures designed by a local artist are located along Sycamore and the greenway. process was done with the adjacent developers and their projects to ensure a cohesive sense of place.
